Should I order 16″ 24″ or 30″
This is dependent on the size of your wrists, the brand you are purchasing, and how flexible you want your wrists to be during your lift.
As the saying goes, “It isn’t all about size”. You can purchase 30″ wraps cheaply that are not as effective as 16″ wraps as the material used isn’t as rigid or supportive. The 16″ Wrist Wraps traditionally wraps around a standard wrist once, whilst a 24″ Wrist Wrap will wrap around twice, a 30″ three times.
The more times you wraps around, the thicker the wraps will be. This means there will be limited flexibility but maximum support. This however doesn’t mean that 30″ is best in every case. The more times your wraps are wrapped round, the less your hand can tip and be flexible which can actually hinder your lift, particularly with a press such as the log press where you will require some wrist movement in order to execute your clean efficiently. With that in mind, there is no harm in having one of each size in your gym bag to support you during different lifts.
If you are new to using wrist wraps we would always recommend using the 16″ to start with.
What Do Wrist Wraps Do?
In effect a wrist wrap is designed to distribute the weight across your wrist to avoid discomfort and reduce unwanted strain on your wrists. The primary purpose of wrist wraps is to provide added stability. This is crucial during heavy lifts such as overhead press, log press and bench pressing, a your wrists will be supporting a lot of weight.
Wrist wraps offer a level of support that can help prevent injuries and enhance overall performance but we would always recommend finding your level before using them. Over use or over reliance on wrist straps can mean you never develop required wrist strength which could catch you out if you enter a competition where wrist wraps are not allowed.
How to put on a pair of TUFF WRAPS Wrist Wraps
- Begin with the end of the wrist wrap in your hand, leaving a short tail hanging.
- Place the loop around your wrist, ensuring the short tail is on the inner side of your wrist.
- Wrap the longer end of the wrist wrap around your wrist, moving towards the outer side.
- Adjust the tension by pulling the wrap tighter or looser, depending on your comfort and the support needed.
- Once you’ve wrapped it around a few times, secure the end by threading it through the loop on the inner side of your wrist.
- If using a pair, repeat the process for the other wrist.
Pro tip: Ensure that the wrist wraps are tight but not too tight. The goal is to provide support without restricting blood flow. While a secure fit is essential, over-tightening the wraps can lead to discomfort and may even contribute to issues like carpal tunnel syndrome. Find the right balance between support an
